Who treats back pain?

Most back pain is managed by your GP and allied health. For pain that persists, or with nerve symptoms such as leg pain, numbness or weakness, your GP may refer you to a pain medicine specialist, an orthopaedic spine surgeon or a neurosurgeon. Sudden weakness or loss of bladder or bowel control needs urgent care.
